Do You Know Which Plant Is Also Known As Andes Aphrodisiac?
by Katie Pinnick, Sage Wellbeing
Maca (aka Andes Aphrodisiac) is a biennial plant native to the central Peruvian Andean plateaus. It has been cultivated for approximately 2600 years and used medicinally for centuries.
Multiple studies show that maca enhances libido in both men and women. Two randomised controlled trials provide support for the use of maca in alleviating several menopausal symptoms. It has also been used by women to support them when reducing their HRT dose.
Resembling a radish, maca is a member of the cruciferous family of plants. Maca has a highly nutritious profile and adaptogenic properties. Adaptogens may reduce the effects of stress, by producing an adaptive response to it and improve homeostasis in the body.
Maca has many different active constituents and is known to be an antioxidant (has the capacity to scavenge free radical and protect against oxidative stress.) In addition, it has bioactive compounds that exhibit neuroprotective and antiproliferation actions (anticancer properties.)
Maca is rich in fibre and contains a large number of essential amino acids, fatty acids, and other nutrients, including vitamin C. It contains significant levels of iron, potassium, sodium, zinc, calcium and copper.
Highbration Organics Protein Powder is a carefully formulated functional protein blend containing activated yellow, red and black maca as well as hormone balancing medicinal mushrooms.
