Organic Psyllium Husk Ultra Fine (Plantago ovata)

Organic Black Walnut Hulls (Jujlans nigra)

Organic Hibiscus Sabdariffa (Hibiscus sabdariffa)

Actions: General tonic, anti-depressant, adrenal restorative, adrenal tonic, anti-tumor, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-tussive, mucoprotector, expectorant, detoxifier, demulcent, hepatoprotector, anti-ulcer, mild laxative, aldosterone-like action, reduces spasm of the respiratory tract

Liquorice root helps prevent adrenal failure by maintaining electrolyte balance.

Organic Horsetail (Equiseturm arvense) 

Immunostimulant, WBC stimulant, anti-inflammatory, astringent, anti-hemorrhagic, haemostatic, anti-atheroma, diuretic, vulnerary, connective tissue tonic (promotes repair of damaged connective tissue and the healthy growth of bones due to it being rich in silicic acid and silicates), anti-rheumatic.

Horsetail contains the nutrients (mineral silica (65%) in the form of silicic acid and silicates, K+, Mg), flavonoids (quercitin, kaempferol glycosides), alkaloids, phenols (caffeic acid esters), phytosterols, saponins (equisitonin), mucilage and tannins.

Organic Rosehip (Rosa canina) 

Actions: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, used as a therapy for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis

Rich source of vitamins C, A, B3, D & E. Anti-inflammatory and immune boosting. Anti-oxidant actions is is due to it being rich in phenolic compounds such as proanthocyanidins and flavonoids such as quercetin and catechin.

Organic Oat Straw (Avena sativa) 

Actions: contains mucilaginous compounds as well as crude fibre that encourage normal bowel function (these compounds reduce bowel transit time, absorb toxins and enhance the efficiency of digestion), prescribed for nervous debility & exhaustion

Organic Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus Rubra) 

Actions: emollient, nutritive, expectorant, aids faster elimination, diuretic, demulcent (relieves irritation and inflammation of the mucous membranes by forming a protective film)

Marshmallow root contains a large percentage of mucilage, a thick, gooey substance with healing properties. It can help relieve irritation and inflammation of the mucous membrane and in the GI tract and is used in conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, and dyspepsia. Marshmallow stimulates the cells that support tissue regeneration to help heal irritated and damaged tissue in the gastrointestinal tract

Organic Cinnamon Verum Bark (Cinnamomum verum) 

Actions: broad spectrum antibacterial and fungicidal effects, carminative, hypoglycaemic activity, enhanced insulin sensitivity, anti-atherosclerotic activity, anti-tumor activity, anti-allergy and anti-asthmatic effects, warm and stimulating so it tends to warm up the digestion, sweet and astringent so it nourishes and tones

The cinnamaldeyde constituent in cinnamon is attributed with producing most of the herb’s biological activity.

Organic Irish Moss (Chrondrus crispus) 

Actions: antimicrobial and antiviral properties, it is known to soothe and aid gastrointestinal issues and inflammation such as ulcers or gastritis, and also increases your metabolism

Like other sea vegetables, it is rich in iodine and other trace minerals. It contains high amounts of Vitamins A, E, F, and K, calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium.

Organic Yucca Root (Yucca schidigera) 

Actions: anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, anti-allergenic, bitter, astringent

Yucca is also a rich source of polyphenolics, including resveratrol and a number of other stilbenes (yuccaols A, B, C, D and E). These phenolics have anti-inflammatory activity (PMID: 16571135)

Chlorella is a green unicellular microalgae. It is well studied and has many biological merits for promoting health. Clinical trials have suggested that supplementation with C. vulgaris can ameliorate amelioration hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia, and protect against oxidative stress, cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (PMID: 26561078)

It contains a unique and diverse composition of functional macro and micro-nutrients including vitamins A and B6, riboflavin, bioavailable iron, thiamine, niacin, zinc, magnesium and phosphorus. Chlorella also contains phytonutrients including antioxidant carotenoids. It is a source of protein, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids & polysaccharides

Organic Turmeric (Curcuma longa) 

Actions: powerful anti-inflammatory, relieves gastrointestinal discomfort, strong anti-oxidant – oxidative damage is one of the mechanisms that promotes ageing and many diseases, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-carcinogenic – promotes the death of cancerous cells and reduces the growth of new blood vessels that feed tumours, neuroprotective (see below),  promotes wound healing

Evidence suggests curcumin can cross the blood-brain barrier and helps protect against Alzheimer’s disease. It works to reduce inflammation and the build up of plaque proteins in the brain characteristic of Alzheimer’s sufferers. Research is also beginning to explore its use as an antidepressant in the treatment of depression, as it demonstrates an ability to boost levels of brain-derived neurotropic factor (reduced levels of this chemical are associated with depression).

Turmeric is high in manganese & iron. It is good source of vitamin B6, fibre & potassium. It contains the polyphenol curcumin.

Organic Astragalus Membranaceous Root (Astragalus membranaceous) 

Actions: immune stimulant anti-inflammatory, energy tonic that improves physical endurance, cardio-protectant (protects the heart), increases telomere activity (slows ageing), anti-oxidant, adaptogen (a classic energy tonic that improves physical endurance by helping the body adapt to external stressful influences, hepa-protectant (protects the liver), diuretic, antidiabetic, expectorant

Astragalus membranaceous is one of the most widely used traditional Chinese herbal medicines. More than 100 compounds, including flavonoids, saponins, polysaccharides, and amino acids have so far been identified, and the biological activities of the compounds have been reported. (Polysaccharides are largely responsible for immunologic effects. Astragalus slowly nourishes the body deeply over time. In Chinese medical terms, astragalus builds up protective chi. It has been used since ancient times in traditional Chinese medicine as a warming (yang) tonic.

Avoid consuming astragalus during acute illness.

A herb that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for 2500 years. It is known as an adaptogen herb. It is a multipurpose medicinal plant which has a rich reservoir of pharmaceutically active triterpenoids. Ashwagandha is heavily researched. Reduce anxiety

Ashwagandha is a member of the nightshade group of vegetables and should not be used if you have hyperthyroidism.

Organic Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale weber) 

Is a member of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family, native to Europe but widely distributed in the warmer temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere. Dandelion and its parts are habitually consumed as plant foods in several areas of the world, where they are also employed in phytotherapy. Indeed, dandelion contains a wide array of phytochemicals whose biological activities are actively being explored in various areas of human health. In particular, emerging evidence suggests that dandelion and its constituents have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities that result in diverse biological effects. (PMID: 22946853)

Dandelion extracts have been studied extensively in recent years for their anti-depressant and anti-inflammatory activity. A study in 2016 showed the anti-cancer potential of an aqueous dandelion root extract (DRE) in several cancer cell models. (PMID: 27564258)

Dandelion root has a long history of use as a liver tonic. (PMID: 15707774)

Organic Aloe Ferox 

Various biological and pharmacological activities of aloe vera have been established, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immuno-modulatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, anticancer, and have been attributed to the presence of many active compounds, including anthraquinones, anthrones, chromones, flavonoids, amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals (PMID: 31272819)

Organic Wormood (Artemisia absinthum) 

A common species in the genus Artemisia. This powerful & bitter herb contains very strong medicinal compounds that are extraordinarily effective at removing unwanted organisms within the body – hence the name ‘wormwood’.

Wormwood has many medicinal and health effects including:

– expels parasites from the intestines

– stimulates the digestive process

– increases digestive enzymes

More research needs to be done, but there is early evidence that wormwood kills cancer cells (PMID: 22185819)

Interesting note – it is an ingredient in the alcoholic drink – absinthe – but in this form it doesn’t have the same medicinal qualities!

Organic Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) 

Is a native plant of North America and has been used by Americans and Europeans as a nerve tonic for more than 200 years.

Scullcap is thought to revive and renew the nervous system – it is used as a sedative, nervous system relaxant, nervous system tonic and as an antispasmodic. It reduces body tension and allows the body to relax into sleep.

It contains phenolic (plant chemical) compounds, especially flavonoids – predominantly baicalin, lateriflorin, dihydrobaicalin, and baicalein. Flavonoids are rich in antioxidant activity.

It can be safely used long-term, due to it’s gentle nature. It is often seen in calming teas due to it’s effects on the nervous system.
