Bio Blends Is Now OnBlends: Dr Libby's Iconic Iron, And Why It's Different
If you have been taking Bio Blends and the name OnBlends has started appearing, nothing has gone wrong and you have not bought the wrong thing. Bio Blends by Dr Libby is now OnBlends™ by Dr Libby. Same founder, same formulations, new name.
I am an authorised Australian stockist of the range, so I am the one fielding the phone calls about it. Right now I have both labels on my shelf while the packaging changeover works its way through, which is exactly why you will still see BioBlends (Onblends) listed as the brand here at Sage Wellbeing.
So let me explain the change properly, introduce you to the woman behind it, and talk about the product that has caused all the fuss: Iconic Iron.
Bio Blends is now OnBlends
Dr Libby founded Bio Blends in 2016 out of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The brand turned ten in 2026, and marked it by changing its name to OnBlends™.
Dr Libby's own explanation of the change is the bit I like: "Bio spoke to biology, but the results we keep hearing about go well beyond biology." Anyone who has ever climbed out of a long stretch of running on empty will know what she means. The change in you is not really a biochemistry story. It is a getting-your-life-back story.
What has actually changed: the name and the packaging.
What has not: the founder, the formulations, the ingredient panels, the manufacturing, or the product you receive from me.
Packaging changeovers take months, not days. While the older stock works through, you may receive either label depending on which batch is on my shelf. Both are the same product. I photograph the label I actually have in the warehouse, so the images on each product page show you what will turn up at your door.
Who is Dr Libby Weaver?
If you have spent any time in the Australian and New Zealand wellness world you already know the name. Dr Libby Weaver is a nutritional biochemist with a PhD from the University of Newcastle and more than two decades of clinical experience. She has written fourteen books, including Rushing Woman's Syndrome and, most relevantly here, Fix Iron First.
What matters to me as a retailer is that this is a formulator-led brand rather than a marketing-led one. Dr Libby's approach is to use food-sourced ingredients and medicinal herbs with measurable active compounds, rather than the cheapest synthetic version of a nutrient that will technically satisfy a label claim. The range is free from fillers, and is vegan, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, GMO free and preservative free.
Iconic Iron took her eight years to develop. It launched in July 2025 and now accounts for close to half of everything the brand sells. Eight years is a long time to spend on one capsule, and it is worth understanding why.
Why Iconic Iron is different to other iron supplements
Here is the problem Dr Libby set out to solve.
Most iron supplements on the shelf use an iron salt: ferrous sulfate, ferrous fumarate or ferrous gluconate. These deliver a large dose of loose, unbound iron into your digestive tract. Your body absorbs a fraction of it, and the rest sits in your gut. That is where the reputation comes from. Constipation. Nausea. Cramping. Black stools. A metallic taste. The tablets that live at the back of the cupboard because taking them makes you feel worse than the deficiency did.
Iconic Iron does something structurally different. It uses ferritin iron sourced from organic peas.
Ferritin is the protein your own body uses to store iron. Plants use it too. Rather than delivering free iron, Iconic Iron delivers iron that is still held inside its natural plant protein shell, the way the pea packaged it. According to the brand, that shell protects both the iron and your digestive system: the iron is absorbed as an intact unit rather than being released loose into the gut, which is how it avoids the constipation, nausea and irritation that conventional iron is known for. It also means it does not depend on being taken with vitamin C the way iron salts do.

What is actually in it
Five ingredients. That is the whole formula.
- Pea ferritin iron (Pisum sativum) 220mg, equivalent to 11mg of iron — the ferritin iron itself
- Sesame seed extract (Sesamum indicum) 100mg
- Carrot root extract (Daucus carota) 50mg
- Acerola cherry (Malpighia glabra) 50mg — one of the richest natural food sources of vitamin C
- Kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) 50mg
No iron salts, no fillers, no synthetic ascorbic acid standing in for real food. Sixty vegetable capsules per bottle.

It can be taken with or without food. Keep it at least thirty minutes away from tea, coffee and calcium-rich foods, because all three interfere with iron uptake regardless of which supplement you are taking. At two capsules a day, a bottle is a month.
Please talk to your doctor before starting iron during pregnancy, or if you are giving it to a child.
Test, do not guess
This is the part I will not shut up about. Iron is not a supplement to take on a hunch, because too much iron is genuinely a problem, not just a waste of money.
Ask your GP for a ferritin test specifically. A standard full blood count can look perfectly normal while your iron stores are scraping the bottom, because your body will protect your haemoglobin at the expense of your reserves. Ferritin is the number that tells you what is actually in the tank.
Then retest. Dr Libby suggests testing again within about three months of starting, and the brand suggests allowing eight to twelve weeks minimum for depleted levels before you judge whether something is working. Your own before-and-after numbers are worth more than anybody's marketing, mine included.
